HATTIESBURG, MS, Nov. 23, 2016 ——The Hattiesburg City Council took action Tuesday, Nov. 22, authorizing the law firm of Watkins & Eager, PLLC, to act to protect the best interest of the City and its citizens.
Watkins & Eager will take all necessary action to obtain relief from, or to modify, the terms of an amended Consent Judgement against the City of Hattiesburg.
The purpose of this action is to modify the amended agreed judgement that requires us to meet certain effluent limits. Gulf Restoration Network is trying to force the City of Hattiesburg to meet limits that are above and beyond the requirements of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
MDEQ supports the City in that the City should only be required to meet current permit limits.
Work to construct a new wastewater treatment facility was halted when the City was able to collect enough testing data to satisfy MDEQ that the wastewater lagoons are able to meet current treatment limits.
